   Source of the Tradition -- The Bride Wears a White Dress:

Did you ever wonder why the bride almost always wears a white dress?    Here's your answer.°    It's similar to why Santa Clause  wears a  red and white outfit?°    

   Your Source of Information:

You've probably seen countless pictures relating to weddings.   Almost all of them have shown the bride wearing a special white dress.    In addition to the traditional reasons referenced above, there's a very different and more mundane reason why in wedding pictures,  brides are almost always wearing a specially designed white dress.    To be cynical and bottom line this for you,  it's not about you, it's about the sellers of wedding dresses making money.   

The next time you watch a wedding-related TV program, keep in mind who produced the program and why they created it.   Like almost everything else you are being told or have been told about weddings , it comes to you from someone whose motive is to sell you something.   

When was the last time you watched a wedding program that dealt with  what a wedding really is or discussed what it means to be married, or told you where the traditions came from or delved into the underlying religious and spiritual significances of a marriage?   When have you ever heard the officiant asked about the significant of his role in a wedding?   You never have!  And don't hold your breath waiting for one to come along.   The producers of these programs are selling you a belief system in which they make money and you loose your freedom to choose.   

   Style:

The only thing that really matters about what you wear for your wedding ceremony is that you feel good about it.   Quite frequently couples choose a theme wedding and dress according to a theme such as western, Hawaiian, renaissance, pirate,°  etc.   Your clothing style can be formal, informal, or very casual.   Simply match you theme, your setting and your intentions.    For example, a beach wedding invites a different clothing than does a formal wedding in a fancy ballroom.   Check our section titled:   Outdoor Wedding Suggestions.°.°  

When deciding how to dress for your wedding, keep in mind that it's your wedding and YOU are in charge.   Even when you choose to turn control of your wedding over to someone else, you are still in charge.  You are delegating authority only.   You cannot delegate responsibility.

   Price:

The price of wedding dresses range from FREE to about two million dollars.     You can find very reasonably priced gowns at discount houses, or don't buy one at all.   Simply rent one at a rental agency or costume shop.   

If you have the money, then pick your price range and purchase whatever dress you want.   If you are on a tight budget, ask your self, "What else you could I do with the money I'm about to spend on a one-wear-only special white dress,"  decide what makes you feel good, and then go for it.  

Here's another factor to consider:  Any time you attach the word wedding to anything you are about to buy, the price goes up dramatically.   Does it really make sense to spend $300 to $500 on a dress that you will only wear once?  

   Some Alternatives:

How about buying or making a beautiful dress that appeals to you -- a dress that is in a color and style that inspires you to feel good -- a dress that you can wear on other special occasions, such as on your anniversary.   

At your wedding, you can also wear a matching blouse and skirt that appears to be a one-piece dress.   That way, you can later wear either blouse or skirt separately with other clothing.   

Another factor to consider is that human bodies tend to change and a dress that fit perfectly on your wedding day, may not fit so perfectly a couple of years later.   So consider a wedding dress designed in such a fashion that it fits more than a single body size.
